Wholesome Nutrition for You has been written largely in response to all the fad diets out there and the mass confusion about nutrition. Wholesome Nutrition for YOU is NOT a diet. It is not about restrictions, calorie counting or over-doing anything. This is a book about moderation that takes into account both your health and your lifestyle. It’s a book about modifying your eating patterns in ways that are beneficial to your health.
“We go back to age old, nourishing traditions and look at what our great grandmothers used to cook. We encourage re-introducing and incorporating these principles into our daily eating.”
Ian and Rachel explain the true health benefits of shopping for organic/naturally grown produce and remind us that fresh food does not need any labelling: “This is the law, so when we bite into a non-organic apple, we are not told that it’s been coated in a preserving wax or blasted with pesticides. “
They encourage cooking from scratch. “We are not trying to make life harder or take up any more of your time. We are here to help you to become a conscious consumer and more mindful in your eating.”
Their common-sense, easy approach will help you and your family towards a holistic, wholesome, healthy life, filled with vitality.
There is a bewildering array of books available on the business of eating, fitness and nutrition, many of them, unfortunately, with (hidden) vested interests in the food industry and singular theories. But every now and again a refreshing and ethical book based on sound, proven scientific principles comes onto the market which is more than just another trendy diet book.
Wholesome Nutrition for You is such a book. In it, nutritional therapist and exercise physiologist Ian Craig and his co-author, health food specialist and sports scientist, Rachel Jesson, cover in detail the emotive topics of nutrition and health from a scientific perspective. They neatly unwrap all the jargon and pseudo mystique, offering sensible, practical, economical everyday dietary approaches in a book that’s not only enjoyable and informative to read, but at the same time accessible to all South Africans who care about optimum health and the business of living life to the full.
Most importantly, Wholesome Nutrition for You stresses the fact that we are all different, and therefore a one-size-fits-all approach is counter-productive to good health.
“We know and understand that every individual is unique and we take that into consideration by launching the book with a chapter on individuality, which looks at individual genetics and your diet.”
Wholesome Nutrition for You is a book about modifying your eating patterns in ways that are beneficial to your health. The common-sense, easy approach will help lead you and your family towards a holistic, wholesome, healthy life, filled with vitality.
Wholesome Nutrition for YOU will teach you how to eat mindfully and intelligently so that you nourish your body and your mind, balance your hormones, feel great and lower your risk of developing lifestyle diseases like diabetes and heart disease
If you were to just read the 2 ½ page Preface, which introduces the goal of this book, you would be richer for the experience. Ian Craig and Rachel Jesson put eating into perspective. They remind us of the importance of using our intuition when eating, rather than relying on what we are told we should eat. Their goal is “to challenge the extreme dietary approaches that have become popular in South Africa and to educate readers towards a more balanced point of view, with the ultimate goal of good health.”
This is an easy read, filled with scientific facts and sincerity.
